ok but hold on….and im not trying to throw no shade b/c the above statement is in some part valid. However i would like to say that this statement acts as though there is strong familial link between Africa and at least the US diaspora (im speaking as an Black American…

ok some things got lost in translation

i wasnt speaking on interpersonal level. im speaking in terms of african nations and the nation of african descended folk here in the US as that is my diasporic experience. That familial link isnt there like its should be precisely b/c we haven’t gotten to know each other on both sides. The we you reference as needing to be pragmatic does not exist outside of theory. Its much bigger than just an issue of cultural acceptance. But more of an understanding that we are connected to start with and that has to go both ways.

See I disagree. Change is incremental. People make up a nation. That’s why I see sustainable change as a grassroots process. Not a magical top down process. And with all due respect I think that my brand of pragmatism does exist out of theory because I know young Africans who have grown up away from Africa who are now going to their countries to work or set up businesses. We’re strangers to our people too, but we’re trying to bridge the gap. I’m actually going to a network event tonight for young Professionals that want to do business in Africa. It will be interesting who I meet. Now, I’m not an African American and I don’t speak on behalf of African American people. This is how we are doing things over here though.
